Data Flows

EXCX entry for the Fishermans Bend Innovation Competition run by City of Melbourne and Creative Victoria. Data Flows was the winner of the ‘Ideas Stream’ by public and councillor vote.

Data Flows is a proposal for a series of electrical ‘indicators’ posted around the brownfields development precinct of Fishermans Bend, showing through light what is happening beneath in subterranean stormwater infrastructure. Data on stormwater flow rates, precinct water recycling rates and inclement weather/ flooding events would be turned into live light shows, making legible to users of the precinct the planned progress being made on water sensitive urban design (WSUD). The indicators would at the same time provide wayfinding, identity and amenity for the precinct – which has low footfall, especially at night.
