Shifting Sand was a temporary public space activation by EXCX in Kirrip Park, South Melbourne. It occupied the centre of the park between May and August 2022, a period of heavy flooding across Australia and coinciding with the release of the water sensitive urban design (WSUD) strategy for Fishermans Bend. Kirrip Park, at 1m above sea level, is one of the lowest lying parts of Melbourne and also one of the most flood prone.
The opening event involved speeches from City of Port Phillip mayor Heather Cunsolo and Chair of the Fishermans Bend Ministerial Advisory Committee, Meredith Sussex.
