Shifting Sand II

Shifting Sand was a temporary public space activation by EXCX on Docklands Esplanade. It remained in situ over summer from December 2022 to February 2023.

The activation involved the re-use of the materials from Shifting Sand, and occupied the ‘sunset-viewing point’, a place on the promenade that does not currently have a seating area. It was installed for this purpose and to act as a ‘critical’ object in front of recent high-density development by the water, with its frayed edges and fading tones juxtaposed against the hard lines of Docklands’ recent tower developments and hard-cut urban interfaces. It was well used particularly during New Years festivities and its decay was documented in collaboration with photographer Tope Adesina.
